Lisa just taken a few hours to load coal (certainly no room
for glamour) on her ex Fellows Morton Clayton working boat "EMPRESS" built at fazeley street in Birmingham. The
boat was built in 1887 as a steamer and ran as a fly boat carrying packets. She worked around the Nottingham and London area,
she is still registered with the PLA, the Port of London Authority. She was converted to a motor size cabin in 1919
and had a Bolinder engine fitted and was re named Envoy.
"Empress"
worked for "Ernie Thomas" of Walsall and eventually went into private ownership, She was in a state when Lisa bought
her and with the help of friends re built her and put her back to working condition. Lisa decided to have a floating craft
and gift shop aboard the boat for the spring and summer months then converted the hold back to carrying coal for winter.
Lisa went to many shows with her shop and her beloved
cat "Stalkie monster" he was always asked after and could always be found asleep on the tea towels in her floating
craft and gift shop.
Empress was sadly sold as circumstances
changed and Lisa became more and more in demand for her boat painting at "Norbury Junction" but continued to paint
traditional canalware for weddings and private customers and sold her work all over the world via mail order.
